Doctors can plan a Cesarean Delivery or C-Section delivery before hand i.e., during your pregnancy. A C-section can be planned if:
- You have had a uterus surgery recently
- You had a one or more C-section previously
- Your placenta is lying unusually low in the uterus
- Your baby is larger in size
- Your baby is in breech or transverse position
- You are HIV positive
- You have obstruction in your vagina, such as presence of large fibroid in the vaginal region
- You have opted for Cesarean
- You are carrying more than one baby
Apart from the above reasons, C-section deliveries can be undertaken out of emergency. These emergency conditions include:
- Change in the baby's heart rate can be point of concern. At such times, the doctor decides that the baby cannot withstand continuous labour.
- Occurrence of prolapsed cord (umbilical cord slips through the cervix) situation, can cut off the baby's oxygen supply.
- Your cervix stops dilating, or the baby is unable to move down the vaginal canal and other attempts for vaginal delivery do not work.
- When you have a water break or you go into labour or a genital herpes, it calls for an emergency. Delivering a baby through C-section helps avoid infections.
- When your placenta starts to separate from the wall of your uterus, your baby is unable to get enough oxygen
Pregnant women are advised to undergo a regular routine checkup to keep a note about the baby's growth and development. These steps help the mother and the baby to prevent any complications.
