Cataract is a common eye disorder that is developed in elder people because of aging. With age, protein that comprises eye lenses breaks down and affects vision clarity. Cataract results in blurred and clouding of vision. Cataract multifocal surgery is one of the methods adopted for treating such conditions.
In cataract surgery procedure, natural defected eye lens is replaced with artificial eye lens. There are two types of eye lens- unifocal and multifocal. Unifocal eye lens makes distant objects appear clearer and one has to use spectacles to view nearby objects distinctly. In case of multi-focal lens, objects at distance, intermediate and nearby - all can be viewed quite clearly sans use of spectacles. This is the biggest advantage of using multi-focal lens. You don't have to use spectacles to view nearby objects. Cost of multi-focal cataract surgery may be more than unifocal cataract surgery since the quality of lens is better and provides more use.
Symptoms of cataract have been mentioned below:
Prior to cataract surgery, doctor will conduct small tests to evaluate your blood glucose level, blood pressure etc. These things may hamper surgery if they are not in normal range. Hence, cataract surgery is always performed when blood pressure and blood glucose level is in appropriate ranges. Post surgery, you may be required to wear goggles to protect your eyes from dust and grime, and harmful ultraviolet radiation emitted by sun.
