Cystoscopy is a surgical procedure carried out for women to view their urinary tract. Ureteroscopy (URS) is an examination of the urinary tract. Both of these treatment methods go hand in hand to diagnose and treat women's urinary tract disorders.
A Cystoscopy URS procedure helps in finding location of kidney stones, or stones present at other locations of the urinary tract. Other urinary tract disorders can also be learnt and treated using this medical technique. Such disorders include:
A cystoscopy procedure begins with injecting patients with general anesthesia. Type of anesthesia used in this procedure depends on which part of the body is being examined.
Cystoscopy URS entails the passage of a small telescope called ureteroscope through the urethra and the bladder and up the ureter to the point where bladder stone is located. If stone is smaller in size, it can be snarled with the basket device and completely removed from the ureter. For a larger sized stone (larger than the diameter of the ureter), it is fragmented into small pieces using laser techniques. After breaking it into bits, similar steps are carried out to remove it.
Doctor leaves a ureteral stent in most of the patients, to ensure that their kidneys drain out urine well. Cystoscopy URS is an out-patient procedure. But, if the procedure gets lengthy or difficult for the patients, they may be asked to stay back at the hospital for at-least a day.
If you are facing a long term urinary tract disorder, cystoscopy URS can be a right option to treat this health issue. Visit your urologist to get proper advice.
