A cystoscopy is performed for causal investigation of various urinary tract disorders. Stones in the bladder can be removed through this procedure. Moreover, urinary incontinence and urinary leakage can also be treated using this procedure.
The process of Cystoscopy URS surgery begins with a local anesthetic being injected into the urethra initially, for inserting a stent. Stents come in different sizes and shapes. A stent is essential for restoring flow of urine into bladder and hence, is used in a cystoscopy. Further, a cystoscope is used to fill the bladder with water which leads to expansion of bladder, thus making examining easier for the urologist. Sample of tissues inside is taken out for investigation.
A cystoscopy helps the urologist in identifying disorders like frequent urinary tract infections (UTIs), hematuria –– blood in the urine, increased urinary frequency, patient's inability to delay trips to toilet, and also his inability to empty the bladder completely. It can also identify abnormal cells and cancerous cells and tumors that are found in a urine sample.
