Welcoming your little bundle of joy in this beautiful world is indeed a moment to cherish forever. It is the most awaited moment in a couples life. This moment becomes even more beautiful if delivery goes smoothly sans any complications. Generally, normal delivery is preferred over C-section. Normal delivery helps mothers recover comparatively faster than C- section delivery.
Normal delivery is carried out in three stages-
Let us study these three stages in elaboration:
During dilation phase, cervix dilates 3 cm to 10 cm as delivery time approaches near. In this phase, you need to practice all the relaxation and breathing techniques as this is the starting of delivery procedure. Cervix may also become efface (thin and soft). Some women may not face any dilation. This may happen in a period of few hours or a day. Women who are delivering for the first time, may face a longer dilation period.
It is the most complicated pregnancy phase time when you are scared, but at the same time, you await birth of your child. It is in this phase that you got to push to give birth to your child. Nurses will be there to guide you. You may take help of your husband or your mother to provide emotional support. It is said that when a women delivers a child, she experiences pain of 22 fractures simultaneously. No doubt, you will feel intense pain in vaginal and perineal area as baby's head comes out. Slowly, the whole body will emerge and with last ouch, your baby will be welcomed into this world!
Placenta that feeds your baby when it is in the womb, will also be expelled from the vagina.
The average time of normal delivery is anywhere between half an hour to two hours. The time significantly reduces when mother pops her second baby.
