Dilation and Curettage (D&C) is a surgical procedure that is employed to remove some part of inner lining of uterus. Dilation is expansion and curettage is scarring or scooping of some tissues of inner lining of uterus. D&C procedure is done to diagnose various uterine conditions like reason for excessive bleeding and to clear uterine lining after possible miscarriage or abortion.
Dilation and Curettage surgery entails dilation of cervix (expansion) and after that, some uterine lining sample is derived by curette which is a spoon like metallic device.

There are certain precautions that have to be taken before D&C procedure commences. Doctor may ask you to fast for few hours prior to the surgical procedure. Also, physical check up may be conducted to ensure that the patient is physically fit.
Post surgery, you may feel tired for few days. To recover soon, take rest as much as possible. Avoid heavy exercises and lifting of heavy weights. Include lots of fruits and salads in your diet. You may experience some bleeding post surgery. It is normal to experience bleeding for few days after the surgery, but if bleeding persists, make sure you visit your doctor as early as possible.
