Preparation to be done prior to FESS Surgery:
- Smoking - If you are scheduled for a FESS, then smoking is a big impediment for a successful outcome. It is advisable to curb this habit 3-4 weeks prior to surgery and a month post surgery.
- Blood thinners - Aspirin, Advil and other blood thinners should be avoided before surgery to prevent bleeding. Such medications interfere with anesthetics and so are best to be avoided.
- Vitamin Supplements - Vitamin and herbal medicines also increase possibility of bleeding and should be stopped prior to surgery.
- Nasal sprays - Nasal sprays available over the counter are advised to be used for keeping the nose moist post operation.
- Physical Examination - Basic laboratory tests and their results are required by doctor to know whether you as a patient are fit for the surgery or not. At times even a CT scan is ordered by the doctor for knowing the status of the sinusitis.
