Hernia is a condition where some organ slips forward from its original place. Inguinal hernia is a type of hernia occurring more in males. Hernia repair surgery begins with general anesthesia being administered to the patient. Small incisions are then created on the abdominal area for inserting a laparoscope for viewing the abdomen and the hernia affecting the body. Other small instruments are inserted inside the body through the incisions for repairing the inguinal hernia. A mesh like patch is placed over the hernia and is sealed with staples to keep it in place. The incisions made are very minute and so the surgery is also referred to as keyhole surgery.
