Laparoscopic hysterectomy procedure makes use of laparoscope which is a thin and flexible instrument. At its front part, light and high definition camera is attached so that doctor is able to view internal structure of uterus. Three to four small incisions are made on the abdominal region through which laparoscope is inserted. Doctors then remove the uterus and clean surrounding tissues. To perform laparoscopic hysterectomy, either general anesthesia or local anesthesia is administered.

Patient can either return home on the same day or on next day of surgery. There are hardly any major risks associated with laparoscopic hysterectomy. One may experience symptoms like foul smelling vaginal discharge, bleeding, lower abdominal pain for few days after the surgery.
