A Laparoscopic Hysterectomy is a minimal invasive surgical method to remove the uterus. A woman's uterus can be removed by using other alternative surgical methods too. Uterus removal becomes necessary if a woman faces severe uterine problems.
In a Laparoscopic Hysterectomy, surgeon uses a special kind of instrument called a laparoscope to get a better visualization of the internal structure of uterus.
While conducting a Laparoscopic Hysterectomy surgery, initially your doctor will clean your surgical site with an antiseptic solution. He/she will then make a small incision in abdominal region near your navel. Incision will be made by inflating the abdomen with carbon dioxide gas. This makes it possible for the surgeon to see the uterus and its surrounding organs. More incisions can be made to pass other surgical tools inside.
During a Laparoscopic Hysterectomy Procedure, the operation table where you are lying down can be tilted to make your head lower than your feet. This helps your surgeon to get a better sight of your abdominal organs. A laparoscope can be inserted through one of the incision for further examinations. Next step includes removing of abnormal tissues surrounding the uterus. Surgeon will then discard the uterus from your vagina or through the laparoscope. Removal of other organs or structures can also follow. After successful completion of this entire procedure, doctor will remove the laparoscope and adhere the area of incision. This can be done using staples or stitches.
After Laparoscopic Hysterectomy operation, doctor will send the removed uterus and other extracted organs to the lab for further study. Stitches will be secured with sterile bandages or cotton dressing. Sanitary pads can also be used at the perineal area to absorb drainage from the vagina.
After the effect of anesthesia wears off, patients are allowed to go home. A set of instructions and some medication will be provided to you, so that you heal faster. Pain killers can be provided to relieve you from the pain experience at the area of incisions and also the internal ones.
