Haemorroidectomy is the surgery to remove haemorrhoids. Haemorrhoids are swollen veins that get developed due to the increased pressure in your rectum (the final section of your large intestine). Straining during your bowel movements can lead to the increase in pressure.
Haemorrhoids are commonly known as piles. It can be internal or external. Internal haemorrhoids develop within the anus or rectum, whereas external haemorrhoids develop outside the anus. External haemorrhoids are more common and most troublesome.
Symptoms of piles include:Some people have a family history of haemorrhoids. Haemorrhoids can also be caused due to chronic constipation problem. Some other causes include lifting heavy weight, diarrhea, extreme pressure on your veins.
External haemorrhoids may develop blood clots. Internal haemorrhoids may prolapse creating a bulge from the anus. Both these conditions create irritation and infections that require surgery. Surgical methods are implied if your haemorrhoid issues do not get resolved with medical treatments. You are expected to feel rectal and anal pain for some days after the Haemorrhoidectomy procedure. Your doctor may prescribe you with a pain killer to take care of the pain. Doctor will ask you to avoid lifting heavy weights or any other activity that involves pulling. You will also be asked to avoid some specific food items in order to reduce the chances of haemorrhoids to reoccur.
Depending on the types and severity of haemorrhoids, you will require near about two weeks for recovery. To prevent further straining in your bowel movement, your physician may recommend you a stool softener. In some cases, a sitz bath is recommended for pain relief.
